This was the first match of the league split where the top five teams play each other in a bid for the tittle.

Knowing that this was going to be a tough match having already lost away to the visitors in the first half of the season, BayCity once again started of strong with lots of controlled and attacking play that saw both Phil and Paul getting shots in on goal, but once again we couldn’t get past the keeper. After a good five minutes of attacking play from BayCity, Woodnesborough got the break and went one nil up.

Despite going one nil down BayCity continued to attack and we had them rattled for a while. Meanwhile Martyn was doing a sturdy job in keeping their attacker at bay!  Despite Martyn’s best efforts holding off their attack unfortunately he ended up being drawn into the penalty box, so a penalty to the visitors which was nicely put away.

Two nil down but BayCity continued to attack with both Paul and Dave forcing some very good saves from the visitor’s keeper.  Meanwhile at the other end, Martyn and Matt were kept busy and between them prevented any further goals going in before halftime.

Into the second half and BayCity still had some hope of salvaging the two-goal deficit and they were soon awarded a free-kick that rebounded out to Ada who was on hand to blast the ball past the keeper and into the net.  BayCity continued to apply pressure and it wasn’t long before it had looked like Dave had equalise but somehow the keeper managed to get the tip of his foot to the ball and deflect it past the post.  Woodnesborough then launched another attack which again saw Martyn getting dragged into his own area, so another penalty to the visitors.

This time however Matt pulled off a brilliant save to keep BayCity in the game.

Woodnesborough then got a third goal which was followed by a fourth goal from a very dubious free kick to put the match out of reach of BayCity.

4 – 1 to Woodnesborough but a valiant effort from the home side.

Well done to Martyn who managed to fend off their main attacker for the majority of the match which was a bit of a David and Goliath situation.
