This was BayCity’s last game of the first half of the season and all hopes were on sealing a top three spot. With BayCity missing a few key players we knew that we had our work cut out against a strong team.
As like our previous matches BayCity came out strong and soon had the home team pinned back with plenty of pressure from Paul, Phil and Ian getting shots fired in. With only five minutes gone saw a great move through their defence from Paul who fired the reds into the lead. However, this was short lived as a defensive error from BayCity allowed open space for Woodnesborough to equalise. It was no more than two minutes that saw our opponents go two one up through a lapse in concentration. Undeterred by this BayCity kept the pressure up and had our opponents rattled and despite plenty attempts on goal, we just couldn’t find the back of the net.
With Dave doing a great job in defence and Paul creating chances, it seemed that the odds were stacked against us as Paul picked up an injury and eventually had to be taken off. With limited substitution options BayCity had to tighten up things and went in at half time two one down.
Whatever BayCity threw at the home team, we just couldn’t find the back of their net. Despite four or five great saves from Glenn, Woodnesborough were still managing to score which was mainly down to ex BayCity forward Pete who managed to put four past us on the night. Woodnesborough also hit the woodwork on two or three occasions during the second half when yet again BayCity were penalised for four running offences which enabled Woodnesborough getting their fifth from the spot.
This was very much a game that could have had a different outcome if we had taken our chances when we had them!
