After two recent defeats and two draws, this was a much-needed win for Bay City in order to have any chance of a top four finish this season. Fielding a strong squad today, as well as some tactical changes made by Dave, there was going to be no excuses!

Bay City came out strong from the start and soon we had the opposition pinned back in there own half of the pitch giving their goalkeeper plenty to think about with Phil firing in some good shots on goal.  Bay City continued to pressure and counterattack and after five minutes Bay City went one nil up with Peter firing home from the edge of the box after some good tactical play from Phil and Ian.

Bay City were finally showing that they are a team to be reckoned with and kept the pressure on our opponents with some great defence from Danny, Paul and Ade, with Patrick and Peter continuing to counter attack which seem to be working well with Phil and Ian.  With five minutes of the first half remaining, Canterbury managed a long range shot which ended up with two deflections and edging past Lawrence’s fingertips! Dam those deflected shots, they just won’t leave us alone!

Canterbury turned on the pressure for the remainder of the first half but Bay City were standing strong with both Lawrence and the goal posts preventing Canterbury from taking the lead.

After the break Bay City came out even stronger and soon we were two one up through another great team effort with Peter finishing from close range after skilfully beating their defenders. Canterbury were now on the back foot and no matter what they tried, Bay City were not going to be beaten today and continued with their best defensive performance of the season against a very strong Canterbury side.

Dave then made the decision to take Peter and Ian off as they were both on two warnings each as well as giving Bay City some fresh legs.  With some swift passing and movements, it was now Paul’s turn to get on the score sheet having been left free in the centre of the field to fire home Bay City’s third.  It wasn’t much longer after that Paul was on hand again to fire home another shot that took a slight deflection past their keeper and into the back of the net.

With victory in sight Bay City kept their cool and remained in control until a debatable penalty decision allowed Canterbury to pull one back.  With five minutes to go Bay City kept their heads ending up as worthy winners and undoubtedly produced their best performance of the season.

All in all this was sublime team effort with everyone playing their part especially Danny who was exceptional today and kept their number one goal scorer from getting anywhere near our goal.

Big thank you to Dave for organising things as usual and it was great to see him back in action again having been out injured for the last few games.  Also, thank you to Jim and Nobby for coming along to support us.
