Wednesday 28 March 2018: BayCity Strollers 2 v Margate 1

Lawrence was out injured and his place in goal was ably taken by Steve Woodward.  Colin Johnson was making his Bay City debut.

The first half was fairly even.  Margate scored first, and then Martin equalised with a great shot into the top corner.

In the second half Bay City had the majority of the possession and put together some nice passing moves and pressure on the Margate goal.  Their keeper was kept pretty busy, and they seemed to have difficulty in getting the ball out of their half.  The Margate supporters were getting restless on the sidelines!

Peter Cadogan hit the post and crossbar, and Margate had their one good shot of the half that Steve pushed round the post.

After further pressure, finally the break came some 5 minutes from the end.  Peter Candy made amends for his first-half missed penalty by scoring what turned out to be the winner – a shot from range which the Margate keeper could only parry through his hands into the net………..

The remaining time was played out without any problems for BayCity, and on the balance of play, this was a deserved victory.
