Quite often, as we are all too aware of, football games have defining moments, the contest was only a few minutes old as a firmly hit shot from the away side clattered in to the inside of our post, it was from some distance and luckily for us we were able to play the rebound in to the safe hands of Peter in the home goal. This seemed to give us a bit of a wake up call as we pushed the Bees back in to their own half, Will was finding nice little pockets of space as Martin and George began to trouble their makers, the opener was again courtesy of yours truly, again a bit of space to move in to as we took the lead, two up shortly after, again lots of space and time on offer as Will found the corner. It would have been nice to go in at the break with a clean sheet, unfortunately we conceded to another long range effort, so instead of going in comfortable it was game on, to be fair we largely controlled things apart from those first few minutes and the closing of the half, to be critical we probably should have kept possession better and been a bit more patient rather than chase a third goal.

The second half began with our opponents striving for an equaliser, this very nearly came as a crisp drive was tipped over by Peter for an excellent save, another one of those moments thankfully going our way. We had also started to move a bit too quickly, largely we had been disciplined in that respect and we did make sure that the dreaded fourth running offence never came, so well done all concerned. A third goal ultimately gave us the breathing space our general play deserved, a quickly taken free kick from the back found Les who turned his maker giving the keeper no chance of saving, we seemed to learn from the first period and now calmly kept possession and made numerous chances as shots rained in, some on target but largely too high, something to practice if we get the chance, George put the result beyond doubt as good pressure on the away goal gave him the time and space to neatly finish.

So a very satisfying result against a Woodnesborough team that never gave up and pushed us all the way, the contest was played in a very good spirit and as usual Chris Smith refereed with his normal calmness and expertise.

Thanks to all members of the squad especially those that got little or no game time for contributing on the day, especially Gordon for his match day management and keeping us going with his encouragement.

Two games in to the season and successive victories, can’t ask for any more than that so let’s see how far we can go!
