So the 5th edition of our annual charity tournament in aid of Prostate Cancer, a great turnout not only to play but to support as well, as with most of this summer it was rather warm, undaunted play began on time. All the games were hard fought and close but played with a good spirit, we might have slowed down a bit (well some of us) but that competitive edge is definitely still there.

The strong Ramsgit team came out on top which was not a surprise and they deservedly held the trophy aloft at the completion of play, at least a Stroller was top scorer albeit for the triumphant Rams, well done Les, the real winner was the event, over 40 players pitting their skills against each other and raising a tidy amount.

 

Some nice goals were scored, the pick maybe being Dave’s deft finish against the Originals, some great saves, heroic defending and plenty of near misses. Big thanks firstly to Simon who when wasn’t playing was refereeing, ably supported by Dave, Dom and Kev, also to Scott for letting us have the pitch at no cost.

 

The highlight as ever for this day is to welcome Team Cadogan, Marion and the gang always make the effort to attend and to be honest it would not be the same without them, the whole family are a credit to Peter (our original Skipper and driving force for our club) and of course Marion.

 

Every year we have a small group who at the end of the tournament pick their player of the day, this year myself, George, Gordon and Rob decided that the very deserved recipient was Nobby, well done mate but remember it’s only a rental, we need it back for next year.

 

Anyway before I start rambling , FIFA, Johnny Infantile ( that’s what it sounds like in my head) Joe Root back as England Test Captain, when will it rain again! Yes sorry on the day and throughout the year we raised £1070, thank you so much for your support, it really is something special and greatly appreciated, the club will be rounding this up to £1200, this means that since our first tournament back on that rainy day in October four years ago we have raised over £5k.

 

The one thing left to say is please if you haven’t booked or had a recent PSA test recently please do, it could save your life, see you all next year.
