BayCity Strollers started the game with real intent, moving the ball well and putting Woodchurch under early pressure. Their bright opening was rewarded when a well-worked free kick saw Dave Beale roll the ball to Tony Ryan, who struck confidently to give the visitors a 1–0 lead.

The Strollers doubled their advantage shortly after. Beale unleashed a powerful long-range effort that rebounded off the crossbar, and Phil Sabin-Dawson reacted quickest to the rebound, finishing sharply to make it 2–0.

Woodchurch responded strongly. A spell of sustained pressure led to three well-taken goals, each leaving Strollers keeper Matt Caston with no chance. The hosts completed the turnaround to go into the break leading 3–2.

BayCity Strollers came out determined after the interval. Their persistence paid off when Sabin-Dawson struck again, calmly finishing to bring the game back level at 3–3.

With the match finely balanced, both sides created chances, but it was Woodchurch who edged ahead again with around ten minutes left. Despite the Strollers pushing hard in the closing stages, they couldn’t quite find the equaliser.

A strong and spirited performance from the Strollers, who started brightly and battled back in the second half, but were narrowly beaten by a clinical Woodchurch side.
