It’s always nice to take a positive from even a game and performance like today’s, there were two this morning, the first is an easy one, Lawrence was superb culminating in a brilliant penalty save, despite the number of goals we conceded without our keeper I shudder to think what the score might have been. We tried a new formation, well an old one which has served us well in the past, this won’t be ditched after just twenty minutes but it didn’t give us the control we had hoped for. To begin with we were under pressure with mainly just long efforts to defend, we then gradually started to play a bit and as in other recent matches took the lead, Kevin found Ian with a pass across the area with the latter making no mistake. The lead didn’t last long as we went into halftime two one down, both goals were well worked to be fair.
Second half we made some changes including back to a more recognisable shape, a fourth running offence by the visitors gave us the chance to quickly draw level, Kevin made no mistake as the keeper was sent the wrong way. This was when the wheels started to come off, straight from the kick off we fell behind again, another equaliser followed as Grant found the corner, again we were behind practically straight away, two further strikes put the game beyond us, Lawrence saved the penalty we conceded from our own fourth running offence. Thankfully the final whistle was blown to put us out of our misery in what must be one of our worst performances for some time.
Our recent results have been disappointing albeit with us being competitive, not today, we were out played, it was suggested from the sidelines that the Bees should be renamed A-, for me though they were definitely an A+ and thoroughly deserved their emphatic victory.
Not sure where we go from here but one thing is for sure we can do better and will improve.
Oh yes, the second positive, the new jackets looked good.
Thanks to our visitors today for the good spirit the game was played in, Chris Smith for refereeing and Gordon for his team management.
