So the start to the much anticipated Over 60s league season began with a match against Canterbury, we tried a new ultimately successful plan of telling our opponents a different kick off time to the one we had arranged, to be fair Canterbury were very understanding to the error and the match kicked off early or late depending on your point of view.
Our real game plan worked a treat moving the ball quickly with one or two touches and keeping possession well.
Colin opened the scoring with a quick free kick neatly playing the ball off the defender and tucking the ball in to the corner, Les adding two more before half time with probably the pick of today’s goals a good bit of passing and a nice through ball from Jim for Les to anticipate and tuck away.
The visitors were largely kept at bay but on the one occasion they did get through Lawrence tipped a rising effort on to the cross bar.
The second half continued in much the same way and Les added two more to carry on his fine form from last season, Rob Lynn then finished off the scoring with a deft lob over the grounded goalkeeper.
Overall a very good all round team performance and from a defensive perspective a nice clean sheet to start with.
So to the bar to discuss Gordon’s impending transfer to Real Madrid and the impending possibility of all us old gits having to be a real life Dads Army, our thoughts are with you the people of Ukraine.
We have been playing against Canterbury now for a number of years and the matches like today’s are always played in a very good spirit.
Thanks again to Rob Rae for refereeing and keeping the game flowing.
