So our penultimate game of the season saw us fall to defeat against the team that thumped us all those months ago in the very first match. It was a lovely warm evening and perfect conditions for our version of the beautiful game, surely everyone involved in actually playing and officiating would prefer a summer based competition.

The first half despite being a fairly even affair saw us come in two goals down, we had two or three great efforts on goal but unfortunately for us found the home keeper in excellent form as saves were made to keep us out. If we could have nicked the all important first goal the outcome could have been very different, Lawrence was also in fine form but could do nothing to stop two well taken goals, Ethelbert’s two main strikers must be up there as the best in the league and they do combine well.

Coming in a couple of goals down was obviously disappointing and then our planned changes were sent in to chaos as Lawrence picked up an injury and couldn’t continue. Chris who should have slotted in to his normal left sided position bravely volunteered, mainly I think because he was permitted as keeper to keep his cap on! A quick switch round in positions seemed to give us more control and we pushed our opponents back but clear cut chances were few and we couldn’t despite our best efforts get back in to the game.

A big thanks to Tony Old and Gordon for their support and especially Chris for stepping up between the sticks, also to our hosts for their hospitality and who have acquitted themselves well in their first league campaign in the over 60s league, not forgetting match official Chris Smith, no penalties for running offences which is unusual, maybe just maybe players are getting the message.

On to our last game Friday away to league champions Woodnesborough Reds as we complete our campaign.
