Back to winning ways for the youth team today on a very pleasant Bank Holiday Sunday morning. Our opponents were obviously very keen to get accustomed to the Baypoint pitch as they arrived early for a warm up and to practice kicking the ball over the fence and then trying to find it.  Dave had different ideas as he gathered the squad together and made it pretty clear that we should win the game after the disappointment of the defeat to Canterbury.

Ethelbert to be fair started well with some controlled possession without ever looking like scoring, we defended well not giving up any chances and gradually put the away defence under pressure.  It was no surprise when we took the lead as Ian was found in space and calmly finished to put us in front, the lead wasn’t to last long as a rare attempt on the home goal resulted in the equaliser, again a nice finish giving Lawrence no chance. We regained our advantage as Ian showed remarkable presence of mind to find the bottom corner nicely set up by Ada. We did have numerous chances to score during the half but we found the opposing keeper having an inspirational morning with several smart saves.

Dave used the half time break to remind us that if we moved the ball quickly and crisply it would pay dividends. Well this did the trick as the first ten minutes of the second half proved decisive as we scored three without reply, Ian ending up with four goals the best of which was his third set up with a great through pass from Patrick, Peter being the other scorer.

The game was seen out with some calm defensive play and although we probably could have scored more we can’t be disappointed with the performance, everyone played their part in a strong all round team display.

This was our first match against Ethelbert W and they were a pleasure to welcome to Baypoint, the game was again superbly refereed by Chris Smith.
