After Wednesdays disappointing defeat at Woodnesborough, this was going to be an opportunity to restore some pride and get some well-earned points. Having run out of kitchen sinks during the midweek clash with Woodnesborough, BayCity came with their shovels and really dug in from the offset with some good attacking play which saw Dave coming close from a freekick move. This was shortly followed by another close attempt from Dave.

We know how good Range Rovers can be and our defence really worked hard to kept our opponents at bay.  It was then we saw Paul working his magic beating off three opponents to get through and shoot on goal which produced a good save from the Rovers keeper. Despite Range Rovers best efforts to attack our goal, they just couldn’t seem to get anything on target for the first 15 minutes.  BayCity then came close to scoring with a good move from the reds with Phil hitting the post. Another counterattack saw a great one two between Dave and Phil allowed Phil through their defence and fire home a well-deserved goal.

Rovers immediately fought back but Matt was on hand to produce a fine save.  With BayCity constantly pushing the opponents back, Dave had another opportunity that narrowly went past the goal. Paul then followed up with another shot on goal which again was well saved by their keeper.

One nil to BayCity at halftime and a much-needed breather.

BayCity came out in the second half with all guns blazing and again coming close from a great through ball from Phil to Darren who just puts the ball wide. Another counterattack saw Paul firing in a great shot from long range which just goes over the bar with the keeper beaten. As the reds continued their attacking pressure, Phil fed a great ball to Dave who almost had the keeper beaten, but the he produced another great save to keep Range Rovers hopes alive.

Once again BayCity launched another attack on goal which again saw Paul firing in a powerful shot forcing the keeper to tip the ball over the bar.  Phil then launched his own attack on the Rovers goal in the space of two minutes with three shots on goal which were all brilliantly saved by the keeper. BayCity were really on the attack and another great through ball from Paul to Dave who just had the keeper to beat but he somehow managed to get his fingertips on the ball and tip it on to the bar.

With only two minutes to go Range Rovers launched an attack which saw them hitting the bar. As BayCity tried to weather the storm, Rovers continued their assault which saw Matt saving the game with two great saves and bag the much deserved three points. One nil to BayCity although the score line could have been much different if it wasn’t for the Rovers keeper who played a blinder today.

I have to say that this was probably BayCity’s best all round team performance of the season with everyone playing their part.  Matts great saves and clean sheet which should keep Dave quiet now!  Ian played a blinder in defence with some great defending as well as enabling some positive counter attacks.  Ada who kept the team together and controlled the midfield and Dave who made a really good impact on our attacks by pushing up for much of the game and really did deserve a goal. Darren, although carrying an injury, was kept busy by his marker but managed to see him off. Paul obviously had an extra Weetabix today as he was on fire with his attacking walks and strikes on goal. Phil probably had breakfast with Paul as he also played well and deserved a hat-trick.

Well-done BayCity, just Herne Bay left to finish the season.

Thanks to Darren Maden who refereed and controlled the match really well.
