This was BayCity’s second game in two days and after yesterday’s draw with Canterbury, BayCity were looking to bag all three points against Sheppey.
Despite the miserable wet weather both teams were raring to go.
From the off BayCity were showing signs of scoring some early goals but with the ball spinning and skidding everywhere in the wet, BayCity just couldn’t find the finishing touches despite several through ball chances.
We then had a repeat of yesterday’s first goal with Scott shooting past the keeper only to hit the far post and rebound in off the keeper (Lawrence would have loved this)!
Moments later, Phil fired in a lovely shot from a BayCity free-kick putting us two nil up. With ten minutes into the first half BayCity’s lack of running discipline saw us on three warnings; so we had to try and slow things down. However, with further goals from Phil, Scott, Martyn and Ada saw us going into half time seven nil up which included a cracking goal from Martyn who had only been on the pitch for a minute!
The second half was the same story as the first half with BayCity demolishing the visitor’s defence. Further goals from Scott taking his tally to five, Martyn with his second, a hat-trick from Dave and one for newbie Nick, took BayCity’s tally to 14. However, BayCity yet again gave away another penalty for a fourth running offence giving the visitors a consolation goal.
With the final score BayCity 14 and Sheppey Warriors 1, we must give credit to the visitors as they managed to put more shots on target than all of the other teams put together that we have played so far this season. Despite this being their first season in the league we could see that Sheppey Warriors have future potential as well as showing great sportsmanship throughout the game.
All in all a great team effort that gave everyone in the squad some time on the pitch and move us up into second place in the league.
With only one goal conceded against the run of normal play in five league games so far, BayCity are really looking like a force to be reckoned with.
Next game Woodnesborough Seniors at home next Monday so watch out for the expat, he’s on fire!
