With both sides fielding strong teams there were three valuable points up for grabs for either side!
With BayCity unbeaten this season we started off strong and soon had the home team pinned back with Dave, Ada, Phil, Paul and Scott creating several opportunities between them, which gave the Canterbury defence and keeper something to think about!
Meanwhile at the other end Canterbury were trying the long shot approach but never really troubled BayCity’s defence apart from one which saw Glenn tipping the ball over the bar.
With the Canterbury keeper keeping the home team in the game, Paul laid on a great pass to Scott who turned their defender and fired in a low shot that hit the post and then rebounded off the keeper and over the line to put BayCity one nil up.
Still driving forward BayCity continued the pressure and it wasn’t long before Paul and Scott put BayCity two nil up, with Scott steam rolling their defence to lay off a great ball for Paul to fire home.
Half time two nil to BayCity
With the second half under way both teams were on 3 warnings for running and it wasn’t long before the home side committed their fourth offence. BayCity now had the opportunity to put the game out of reach but a great save by the Canterbury keeper, just about kept the home team in the game. Shortly after Canterbury pulled one back through an intercepted throw out by Glen.
This seemed to give Canterbury a new lease of life who were then awarded a penalty for BayCity’s fourth running offence; which was blasted in leaving Glen with no chance of saving.
Despite losing a two-goal lead, BayCity continued to pressure but our opponents stood firm in defence and kept out everything that we threw at them.
Two all the final result which seemed fair in the end with both sides taking one point from a well fought match with great sportsmanship from both teams and some good refereeing from Chris Smith.
Man of the match went to Paul who kept Canterbury on their toes from start to finish.
