On a nice evening after some rain we marched out across the Herne Bay pitch to the furthest corner, warm up done. True to form I lost the toss and we stayed where we were with Ethelbert taking KO.

 

We found conditions a little difficult in the first half with the ball zipping off the surface and passes going astray. Unfortunately, this led to Ethelbert opening the scoring with a well placed shot that gave Nobby no chance.

 

The referee (Frankie Empson) was controlling the game and was very strict on any contact leading to free kicks mainly for Ethelbert. The second Ethelbert goal was a bit contentious with the ball being stabbed in inside the D, however,  the ref gave it. I am beginning to understand that when you are down, the luck and decisions go against you.

 

Another goal before half time was again an unstoppable strike leaving us 3-0 down at the break.

 

Martin came on in place of Paul and went and played up front with Ian.

 

We came more into the game creating some chances without the goal that I thought we deserved. Throughout the game Ethelbert had been collecting running offences which resulted in a penalty. Unfortunately, I stepped up and duly hit the post, again.

 

Despite our pressure Ethelbert scored a fourth goal.

 

Irrespective of the result we all came off the pitch having enjoyed the game as it was played with the right attitude.
