BayCity Strollers came up against a very strong and determined Ashford team who had only lost their first league game the previous Thursday against Herne Bay and didn’t want to lose two consecutive matches. Ashford started well but Strollers gradually got their passing game together and started to dominate without making any clear chances. Lawrence had to make a few saves from long shots but was otherwise untroubled.
The second half started well for the home team and there were several opportunities to take the lead which unfortunately were not taken. Eventually the pressure told with another fine finish from Rob Lynn dancing through the defence assisted by Mick Sharp. With just four minutes left victory was snatched away with a deflected finish into the top corner – the only way Lawrence could be beaten today, showing fine form as ever. Strollers still had chances to regain the lead but alas it wasn’t to be.
On the whole two well matched teams and a good competitive match played in the right spirit.
A mention to Referee Dave Laird who had a fine match letting play flow wherever possible.
