It was a tough morning for the BayCity Strollers, who came up against a well-drilled and experienced Woodnesborough side showing quality and composure throughout a lively encounter. Despite plenty of effort and some promising passages of play from the home team, the visitors’ sharp movement and clinical finishing proved decisive in a 5–0 win.
The Strollers began brightly, enjoying good possession in the opening stages, but Woodnesborough soon found their rhythm. A neat turn and crisp finish from Brett Blackgrove opened the scoring, before Pete Cochrane doubled the lead midway through the half to give the visitors control. BayCity continued to battle, but a third goal — Cochrane’s second of the game — effectively sealed the contest before the break.
The Strollers showed plenty of spirit in the second half, maintaining their discipline and working hard to the end. Woodnesborough added two more well-taken goals to complete the scoring, but BayCity could take pride in their teamwork and composure — notably conceding just one walking offence all match.
Attention now turns to next week’s fixture, where the Strollers will look to build on their effort and turn resilience into results.
Thanks to Darren Madden for refereeing.
And a big thanks to those who came and supported us.
