03/08/2025 : Peter Cadogan Memorial Cup

The 4th edition of our annual charity tournament was again blessed with glorious sunshine. The three BayCity teams along with our friends from Ramsgate assembled to compete for the Peter Cadogan Cup and to raise funds for the fight against Prostate Cancer. Baypoint very generously let us have the use of the pitch and provided after match refreshments free of charge with Scott also making a donation to the cause. For the first time we had an official walking football referee with Darren (Skippy) Madden doing a magnificent job of keeping everything under control without much of a break between games, Darren very kindly did this free of charge. All this meant that everything we collected would be donated.

On to the actual football, the first three games were very tight affairs and after two goalless draws Up Pompey edged out the Gits by a single goal. After the half way point things opened up as BayCity Originals were triumphant over Whitstable Sunsets with Will, Jack and Wayne scoring with emphatic finishes, at the other end Simon excelled with a fine penalty save. Next up the Originals were beaten by Up Pompey, the memorable moment in this game saw young Rose deftly nutmegging a Blues defender. Finally the Sunsets overcame a weary Ramsgits side, the three BayCity teams had the luxury of younger players along with substitutes, which in the end made a difference. All the games were played for the most part in good spirits.

BayCity Originals 0 Ramsgits 0
Whitstable Sunsets 0 Up Pompey 0
Up Pompey 1 Ramsgits 0
BayCity Originals 3 Whitstable Sunsets 0
Up Pompey 2 BayCity Originals 1
Whitstable Sunsets 4 Ramsgits 0

Winners  – Up Pompey
Walkers Up – BayCity Originals
3rd – Whitstable Sunsets
4th – Ramsgits

Will deservedly was rewarded, not only for his Martinesque goal, but his overall display upholding the spirit of the day as Player of the Tournament.

Up Pompey were worthy winners as they remained undefeated and conceded just a single goal. Whilst it’s always nice to be victorious the main reason we were all present was to raise a few quid, this we did and then some. Not only was it those present but everyone else that made a donation who couldn’t attend, in addition to a contribution collected at our presentation evening, we ended with a total of £1250. I thank each and every one of you for a fantastic effort.
