On a very warm Saturday, the 50s squad entered the Charity event at Woodnesborough, playing a total of 6 games resulting in 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses.

 

 

Considering the squad was a mix of 50s, 60s & Ethelbert guests, some of the lads playing together for the first time, matched every team with simple passing, good movement and keeping possession of the ball. 

 

 

First match against Margate ended 1-1. Phil coming on to make an immediate impact to put BayCity ahead but Margate drew level from the penalty spot with 3 minutes to go following 4 running offences. 

 

 

Second match against Deal saw Darren scoring 2 goals and Tony hitting the crossbar. 

 

 

Third match against Range Rovers was a hard fought game where Bay City lost 0-2 due to 2 very well taken goals. 

 

 

Fourth match against Aylesford again saw us lose 0-2 but again the team gave a very good account of themselves – BOTH losses were against the eventual finalists. 

 

 

Fifth game against Woodnesborough gave Bay City a 3-0 win, with Dave scoring 2 and Darren hitting the 3rd.  The opponents did have a goal disallowed when Kevin Joyce (playing as a guest for Woodnesborough) scored but VAR showed he was clearly inside the penalty box. 

 

 

The sixth game against Woodchurch was a close fought 0-0 draw, with Phil hitting the post as both teams used all substitutes available to combat fatigue and heat. Prawn of the day must go to Tony when he was put clear on goal only to find himself standing next to the opponents goalkeeper “oh, i’m in their penalty area” echoed Tony’s voice around the pitch.

 

 

Dom did his usual brickwall impression as our opponents struggled to get past him. Barry, Jon & Tony were all brilliant at the back, solid against the younger opposition. Grant kept everyone connecting and passing in the centre of the pitch.  Nick superbly took on the role of centre forward, holding up the ball while the midfield caught up with him.  Which left Phil, Darren and Dave pitching in with the goals and battling up and down the pitch to support the defence and attack.  Darren topped the goalscoring charts with his 3 well taken goals. 

 

 

A great day, finishing a very respectable 3rd place, playing in the good spirit of the game and a well deserved pint at the end.  Thank you to everyone for representing BayCity Strollers and to Rob Lynn for coming over to support us.
