Our winning streak came to an end as we took on last year’s league winners in our first game of the new year.

It’s difficult to put down in words sometimes about my view on proceedings as before we conceded I thought we were the better side and it would only be a matter of time before we scored the opening goal, so I would like to quote Gordon with his observations from the sidelines “The scoreline did not reflect the game. Thought we were unlucky coming close on many occasions and could easily have been in front at halftime which would’ve changed the flow of the game”.

We were three down at the break playing 6 aside because of a virus which affected the away teams squad. Two of the goals were well taken efforts but the third should never had been allowed, an advantage was played after a foul which was a bit puzzling as we did not have clear possession, the whistle could still have been blown.

The second half started well for us as Kevin reduced the arrears from a rebound. However, any hope we had of getting back in the match quickly disappeared as we conceded a fourth within just a minute, the fifth goal put an unjustified gloss on the game for the visitors.

It’s obviously disappointing to be beaten by this sort of score, however, there were periods of the game especially in the first half when we really did acquit ourselves well, we had good possession and movement, some of our passing was a bit off at times but we never gave up trying to play our football. At the end of the day though it’s all about scoring goals and our opponents were much better than us in that respect. We take this one firmly on the chin, no point in feeling sorry for ourselves with could’ve, should’ve, would’ve.

Thanks to everyone who braved the potential bad weather to support us and to Chris Smith for refereeing.
