BayCity youth team today played their last away game of the season and although making a bright start ending up being well beaten by our more experienced opponents.

We really did start well pushing the home team back and forcing a number of corners, unfortunately most of our attempts to break the deadlock were from long range which seldom troubled Paul in goal. Our best chance came midway through the half as Ada found a bit of space, his initial effort hit the post, he quickly gathered the rebound only to see his subsequent shot well saved.

Unfortunately soon after this, the divining period of the game was to catch us out as we conceded three goals in five minutes to leave us with a mountain to climb; each goal was well finished giving Lawrence no chance.  You can always examine the reason why we had a mad few minutes but in all honesty we just didn’t cope very well with the movement of the home team, if we could have made the same impact when we were on top the result could have been much different.

So the half time break left us more than a little frustrated as the score line didn’t really reflect the game. Having said that we can learn from the experience, this being our first season in the league and today we played against a team that have been together for a number of years and that probably made the difference.

The second half was much the same as we again had good possession but couldn’t turn this in to good chances.  On the plus side we gave as good as we got as we competed well but ultimately failed to get a goal back to make things a bit more interesting and put them under pressure.

Some frank exchanges were made after the full time whistle as the performance was discussed; this will do us well for next season as you tend to learn a lot more from a defeat than a victory.

Thanks to Rob Rae for refereeing and to Woodnesborough for their hospitality.

Last game of the season next week as we host possible league winners Herne Bay.
