25/02/2024 : Baycity Strollers v Ramsgate (Friendly – Mixed age groups)

With Bay City only having 6 players available, Ramsgate kindly lent us Nigel and Martin to make the sides equal at eight a side, however, Ramsgate still had the advantage of two subs.

The game started off strong with both sides playing some good football with plenty of passing and attacks at both ends.  Five minutes in and it was Michael who put Bay City ahead with a well taken goal from a good set play from Jim, Gordon, Martin, and Phil enabling Michael to turn the defender and shoot low and wide leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.  Having rattled the Ramsgate defence, Bay City continued the pressure which kept Lawrence quiet at the other end.

Five minutes from half time saw Bay City concede a freekick close to the edge of the box which was deflected wide, however, Ramsgate followed up with a shot that Lawrence managed to save but somehow spun into the back of the net in almost slow-motion pace.  All square at half time.

Bay City came out in the second half and continued to pressure Ramsgate with Michael, Phil and Martin keeping the keeper busy.  A nice one two with Martin saw Phil fire in an excellent long range shot into the right-hand corner putting Bay City two one up.  As the half continued, both Phil and Martin rattled the woodwork as Bay City continued to pressure the opponents.  However, it was once again Ramsgate who had the luck which saw another shot from out wide somehow get through Lawrence with help from a wet pitch and some lowdown gravity tricks.

Save of the match goes to Lawrence which saw a well struck shot destined for the top right corner but Lawrence pulled off a miraculous save tipping the ball over the bar. (Lawrence definitely had his three Weetabix)

Two all in the end.  It was a game played in friendly spirit as well as some excellent refereeing which was of a high standard.
