So here we go again as Bay City Strollers continued their league campaign against Canterbury: six-a-side today on the wide open spaces at BayPoint.
After a fairly quiet start from both teams trying to spot a team mate somewhere in the distance, eventually Strollers seemed to wake up and get a bit closer and string a few passes together. 5 first half goals with Les bagging a hat-trick, Chris with a left foot finish and a fine team goal finished off by joint top scorer Rob.
At the beginning of the second half Bay City’s fine youth policy saw the introduction of Martin Millbank to the team coming through the ranks of the over 50s. The veterans welcomed him with great enthusiasm and a call was heard to “Chase it in to the corner Martin – you can get it” – but alas, it was a shocking pass and he had no chance. Having said this, Martin got involved in the game with several good touches and was unfortunate not to get a well deserved goal.
So no second half goals today but a very solid team display and a clean sheet, Les man of the match and Lawrence ever reliable in goal.
Next up, Margate away in their ever popular cage, a tougher challenge probably but one we will take on with gusto.
Well played today Canterbury you are a credit to the league and walking football and big thanks to (no skin off my nose) Referee Rob Rae.
