17/10/21 : Baycity Strollers 3 Margate 1 (Over 60s Kent League)

Bay City Strollers over 60s finished their league campaign with in the end a comfortable win over Margate.

To be honest we did start a bit slowly and struggled to pass the ball to each other, but we did manage to keep out a very lively Margate team with their centre forward doing particularly well with his movement and just about legal pace. We kept plugging away and eventually took control of the half with Les going through and giving us the lead just before the break.

So one up at half time but unfortunately the equaliser was conceded in the first minutes after the resumption by the previously mentioned Margate forward, a period of good pressure on our goal followed with a couple of free kicks well defended by the home defence.

Les was already having an influence on our play but then burst in to life with a couple of great finishes to complete a very fine hat trick, especially the first one which gave the excellent Margate keeper no chance.

Although there were no more goals there was plenty of enterprising play from both sides with some fierce efforts on goal, Lawrence making a couple of finger tip saves to keep our two goal lead.

The game was played in an excellent spirit and superbly refereed by Rob Rae with no bad tackles and very little running.

On reflection of our season it has been most enjoyable with some very good individual and team performances and we only missed out on second place on goal difference.

We have just one more thing before the season ends with a cup competition this Saturday involving all the teams plus a few guests.
