On a nice evening after some sun during the day, we descended on Woodnesborough. As we lined up as a 6 just before the toss of coin we were informed that it was in fact a 7-a-side game so on came our sub Richie. True to form I lost the toss and we stayed where we were with Bay City taking KO.
In the pre-match pep talk we spoke about being a little more physical and not giving the opposition time to turn.
We started the way we planned to match up against our opposing players, man to man. Early in the half Ian got the chance of a snapshot and duly put it in the back of the net. Woodnesborough began to grow into the game pushing for an equaliser however Pete stood strong making some good saves to keep the score 0-1.
Second half was much of the same with the home side eager for an equaliser but not creating many if any clear chances. Colin, who was playing out of position in defence, was his usual calm controlling self not giving the Bees striker any chances to turn and shoot.
When we did have the ball, we were looking to get it up to George who did a good job of holding it up. From this we were able to create a few chances but unable to increase our lead.
In the last seconds the home team were awarded a free kick on the edge of our box. As throughout the game we all stood up and blocked the shot to hear the final whistle.
At last, 3 points, which has been a long time coming, but fully deserved as we all put in a battling performance.
Thanks to Chris Smith for refereeing.
Thanks to Mrs Smith for the refreshments in the clubhouse afterwards and to Jim and Pete’s grandson for coming to support.
