This was very much a must win game for BayCity to keep our challenge for the league title alive. Our three previous encounters with Range Rovers had seen two draws and one loss.

With one change made from the Herne Bay match, BayCity came out with guns blazing and within ten seconds hitting the post with a good shot from Paul.  BayCity were playing some excellent one touch football which soon saw Phil shooting just wide. Range Rovers didn’t seem to be able to mount any attacks which Darren was making sure of with some good defending.

With BayCity continuing to pressure the opponent’s goal, Ian was allowed through to his right and narrowly misses the target. We were then awarded a free kick which saw Dave testing their keeper.  Another good through ball to Phil sees him turning the defence and manages to force a good save from the Rovers keeper.  Phil was now on fire and yet again managed to get through their defence and force two more good saves from the Rovers keeper.

With minutes to go to half time BayCity was penalised for a fourth running offence which gave Range Rovers the opportunity to take a one nil lead into half time.

Undeterred by this BayCity came out for the second half with real menace and within two minutes were level through a well manoeuvred free kick from Dave and Phil that allowed Paul to fire the ball past the keeper.  However, It wasn’t long before Range Rovers restored the lead through another penalty as Gleen was alleged to of handled the ball outside of the area.

Sub made with Danny on for Darren who was struggling with a groin injury.

BayCity continued to pressure the opponents and another free-kick saw Ian on hand to tuck away the rebound. As BayCity continued their attacks to try and put the match out of reach of Range Rovers, a great move from Ada and Phil saw Dave forcing another good save from their keeper.  It was then Phil’s turn to get on the score sheet with another great turn on the defender that allowed him to tuck the ball past the keeper. Soon after BayCity hit the back of the net again only for it to be ruled out for running.

With only minutes to go a great one two between Ada and Phil allowed Ian plenty of time and space to fire in the fourth goal and put the game out of reach of Range Rovers.

4 – 2 final score to BayCity and well deserved result having produced a great team effort which moved the team from fifth to second place in the league.

With two silly penalties and some great saves from the Rovers keeper the scoreline could have been a lot different!

Today’s win was topped off with the over 60’s beating Canterbury 3-2.

Well done to all and a great day’s football from both the 50’s and 60’s teams.

Thanks also to Simon for managing the team and Chris Smith for refereeing.
